Modelmaking, Rolling Stock, Workshop Tips
With cheap watercolors, you can achieve a realistic model look
The unrealistic gloss of new models of plastic injection molding can be rectified with water without the value of the models lessen the long term
A variety of models of buildings and rolling stock (locomotives, freight cars) are manufactured in plastic injection molding. The result is that these models have often unrealistic as supplied shiny surfaces. Even with many models, the building looks unreal. At the railway, which runs the model with wind and weather, even more so. In particular, freight wagons can be seen in real life is often their heavy everyday life with significant pollution because they, unlike the passenger cars were not or rarely went to a car wash. Many model railroader fear the aging (weathering) of the models, however, because it goes into usually accompanied by a sharp fall. But there is a way out: The aging of water color. Advantage of this method: You can remove the signs of weathering relatively easily. It is advisable to use as the first test object, an inexpensive, second-hand goods wagon, as you receive it for a few euros on each model railroad exhibition. Proceed through the following steps:
- First, the question arises whether you edit the model better in the state Assembly or in part. Trend: In large models it is useful to dissect them. For small models, as well as the popular size H0, brings the relatively few or no benefits.
- Now you degrease the model or parts as water color (from greasy surfaces fingerprints!) Is repelled. This is the best warm water to which you give in to the manufacturer's Recommended dosage fragrance-free detergent.
- Let the car or the parts dry well and then take the best, no longer in the area that you want to handle. Attract many professionals as a protective medical gloves.
- For the aging water color with fine pigments are ideal. As a particular variants are shades of black, brown and white suitable. The water color should be used for this purpose "thick touched.
- Wear the colors with a brush or cloth (wiping technology). A very good dirt-effect you get, for example, if you apply the paint and wipe off just before drying with a lint-free paper towel again.
In the model railroad operation to keep the watercolors surprisingly well, if you do not just touched the surface-treated with wet fingers. But the advantage of water-lies precisely in the fact that the model can quite easily revert back to the original state. Are you convinced by the result very much and want to save these optics permanently fix the surface with a transparent, satin spray paint. Such "protective" you get at the hardware store.
Tip: If you have little idea of what to leave traces of dirt, aging and weathering, in fact, obtain a model photo or use the image search from Google or another search engine.
